🎓 Your First Certification
So you tried a pool session and loved it? Here is what comes next on your path to becoming a certified diver.
What is the P1★ / 1 Star Diver?
The Plongeur 1 étoile (P1★) is the first CMAS/FLASSA certification level. It is equivalent to PADI Open Water Diver or SSI Open Water Diver. It allows you to dive supervised to 20 metres with a qualified guide or instructor.
What does the training involve?
- Pool sessions — Learn fundamental skills: mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy control, fin techniques, buddy breathing
- Theory — Physics of diving, physiology, equipment, safety procedures, dive planning
- Open water dives — Typically 4-6 dives in a quarry or lake to practice skills in real conditions
How long does it take?
Training runs throughout the season (September to June). Pool sessions are weekly. Most members complete their P1★ within one season. The pace is adapted to your progress — no rush!
What do I need?
- A valid medical certificate for diving (from your GP, ENT specialist, or sports doctor)
- A club membership (includes federation licence and insurance)
- A swimsuit and towel for pool sessions
- The club provides all diving equipment for training
What does it cost?
The annual club membership covers pool training, equipment use, and insurance. Open water dives may have additional costs for site entry fees and transport. See the dues calculator for current membership fees.
What comes after P1★?
| Level | What it unlocks |
|---|---|
| P1★ | Supervised diving to 20m |
| P2★ | Supervised to 40m + autonomous to 20m |
| P3★ | Autonomous to 60m |
| P4★ (Guide de Palanquée) | Lead dive groups, supervise less experienced divers |
| M1★ (Moniteur) | Teach and certify new divers |
